Antonia and Ilya's wedding was the perfect mix of timeless, romantic and a little bit editorial.

From saying "I do" inside the beautiful Toorak Uniting Church to running around Melbourne for portraits at Parliament House and Treasury Gardens, their day gave us so many different backdrops to play with.

Think classic church wedding, iconic Melbourne architecture, dreamy garden portraits and all the little candid moments in between.

And honestly? Melbourne really showed off for us.

Saying "I Do" at Toorak Uniting Church

Antonia and Ilya's ceremony took place at Toorak Uniting Church, and there is just something about a church wedding that feels so timeless.

The beautiful architecture, the long aisle, everyone waiting for the bride to arrive, and all those little glances between family and friends make church ceremonies so special to photograph.

I always try to be as unobtrusive as possible during ceremonies. I'm looking for the things you might not even notice are happening. A nervous smile, someone wiping away a tear, your parents watching you exchange vows, or that look between the two of you that says, "We're actually married!"

Those are the photographs that end up meaning so much.

And then, of course, comes one of my favourite moments to photograph: walking back down the aisle as newlyweds.

Next Stop: Parliament House Melbourne

After the ceremony, it was time to head into the city.

If you want your wedding photos to have that editorial, old-money, timeless Melbourne feel, Parliament House is pretty hard to beat.

The huge stone columns, steps and beautiful architecture create the most incredible backdrop, especially against a wedding dress and suit.

For Antonia and Ilya's portraits, we mixed the more editorial moments with movement and candid prompts so nothing felt too stiff or overly posed.

That's always my goal.

I want to give you those gorgeous, frame-worthy portraits while still letting you laugh, move around, talk to each other and actually enjoy the fact that you JUST GOT MARRIED.

A Little Bit of Green at Treasury Gardens

One of the best things about taking wedding photos around Parliament House is that you can completely change the look of your gallery without travelling very far.

Enter: Treasury Gardens.

After the grand architecture of Parliament House, the greenery at Treasury Gardens gave Antonia and Ilya's photos a softer and more romantic feel.

Suddenly, we went from editorial Melbourne city portraits to dreamy garden photos, all within the same part of the city.

This is exactly why I love using multiple nearby locations for wedding portraits. You get so much variety in your final gallery without spending half your wedding day sitting in a car.

Because your wedding day should actually feel like a wedding day, not an eight-hour photoshoot.

The Photos I Love the Most

As much as I love a beautiful editorial portrait, the photos I'm always drawn back to are the ones that feel like something.

The laughter.

The slightly chaotic moments.

The way you look at each other when you think nobody is watching.

Your dress moving as you walk.

Your family and friends being completely themselves.

The "OMG, we're married" moments.

That's what I want your wedding gallery to hold onto.

Antonia and Ilya's day had the perfect combination of those candid moments alongside timeless portraits, and it's exactly the kind of balance I love creating for my couples.

Planning a Melbourne Wedding?

If you're planning a wedding at Toorak Uniting Church, Parliament House, Treasury Gardens or somewhere completely different, I'd love to hear what you're dreaming up.

My approach to wedding photography is candid, romantic and editorial. I'll guide you when you need it, disappear into the background when you don't, and make sure you walk away with photos that actually feel like you.

Because the perfectly posed photos are beautiful.

But the moments you didn't even realise I captured?

They're usually the ones you end up loving the most.
